Teaching
This year at Western I will be teaching Introduction to Ethics focused on classical problems of autonomy, relational autonomy which gives us the philosophical toolbox to talk about newer work on consent. In the Spring I will be teaching a fourth year seminar on Practical Prison Abolition and a second year course on “Contemporary Islamic Philosophy”.
At Wesleyan University, I taught a First year, writing intensive seminar Introduction to Political Philosophy about Social contract theory, UBI and various problems and solutions of contemporary democracies. I also taught the Philosophy of Law with a concentration not only on jurisprudence and adjudication but Freedom of speech and its relation to the internet as well as academic freedom.
Lat Spring I taught Critical Philosophy of Race for the fourth time as well as an interdisciplinary course called Self & Social Transformation. I begin with the late Foucault on self transformation, connect that to the Ancient Greeks, Stoics and Confucianism. We then move to contemporary social movements that emphasize self transformation.
I have taught twelve separate courses as sole instructor. Two first year, critical thinking courses and two bioethics courses at the University of South Florida, one senior year seminar entitled "The Political Philosophy of Foucault's Late Work on Self-Transformation" and a third year course in the political science department called "Feminist Political Theory" at McGill University for which I was nominated for the Arts Undergraduate Society of McGill Teaching Award. Only three people in all of the faculty of Arts and Sciences at McGill, including Professors, were nominated for this award.
At Wofford I taught a Gen. Ed. Introduction to Philosophy course called “Basic Problems of Philosophy”, I began to teach an Introductory Political Philosophy course and a senior course in the Philosophy of Law. There, I also taught a newly established “Philosophy of Race” course.
